That doesn't appear to work for Windows 7 -- there is not a "File Types" option under Explorer->Tools->Folder Options. I can find Control Panel->Programs->Default Programs->Set Associations, which is how I set the file type and association I showed above with the assoc and ftype commands...

After rereading your response and looking at the right mouse button menu options in Explorer one more time, I understand I need to set the 'edit' command for the file type or extension. How do you set that without going into regedit? Danny
