cdd %comspec%\.. is fine enough for me.

Add “Open with TakeCommand” to the Right-Click Menu of Explorer

The magic is not so much in the BTM files, but rather in the obscure registry key that is being used. For the most part, this displaces the need to use ,DLL files, even under Windows 2000.

Launching CMD.EXE from the Explorer Bar

Spiritpyre's shell extensions can open a lot of useful things, like Toggle fileextentions, toggle hidden, open command prompt, etc. It's a bit long in the tooth, but works well in Windows 7 (6.10 32-bit). You can add things to the menu too.

Launching CMD.EXE from the Explorer Bar

I launch tcc from a modified 'write.exe', that uses apppath to load tccu.exe, In turn the apppath launches tcc.exe. This overcomes a number of bugs in Windows.

I normally run such batches from an administrator prompt, not by selecting 'run as administrator'.

load external DOS program and persist in memory

The way to do this, if it is a real DOS program (as opposed to say a console program), is to load it under a command.com from msdos or pcdos 5.00, or the command.com from freedos, or 4dos. Then load the program to memory, and you can run your btm under 4dos. This is the way for running...

    COMMAND.COM IS 40 YEARS OLD

Given what they did to cmd.exe in 2000 (see the extensions), i would more likely suggest that it would not have gone further that way: cryptic addons to replace functions. In the days of DOS 123, you wrote macros in the menu language, such as /FSname~ There was a secret /X menu which gave you...

Alias or Environment Variable -- is one better?

I use a rexx script to create .zip and .rar files. This basically creates a blank file, that can be opened in anything, such as fc/2 or wincmd. It just creates an empty zip file. The ,ION is a fix for some programs putting quotes around the file name, and others not reading them as a result...

    Declined proper function....

If you are going to do Mac and O' and other joint names, you would need a special char to indicate wordbreak with no space.

Declined Have TCMD/TCC support registered version of V

When you run v . at the command prompt, then you get a file-view like explorer at much quicker speed. You can modify the description of the file, etc, if you use descript.ion, rather than an ea.
