Build 24: Toolbar Still Vanishes on Lock Option Change

I can easily live with this issue, but I wanted to report that it is still happening. When I change the lock setting option for the tabbed toolbar and save the change, the loaded toolbar is cleared.

Is anyone else seeing this? If not, does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Any debugging I could try? It is very peculiar and new with some build of version 36.

Here is my version information:

Sorry. It's the same problem that has been there for some time: The entire toolbar disappears, as if I had entered the command TCTOOLBAR /C.
 
I had not looked at that. My TCSTART loads the toolbar when TCMD first starts to ensure that I have my standard version stored in a file. However, I just commented out that code, and now TCMD starts up with no toolbar. The toolbar does appear if I run

tctoolbar /i

When I change the setting of "Lock tabbed toolbar", the toolbar disappears. The above command restores it. Something seems to be doing the equivalent of tctoolbar /c when the option changes.

I can edit the value in the INI file. When TCMD starts, the toolbar is not present. I can load it using the command above, and it comes up locked or unlocked according to the value I have edited into the INI file.

When the toolbar data is stored in the INI file, what determines whether it should be loaded or not at startup? If that value is changed when the lock setting is changed, it could explain the behavior I'm observing.

I see it or not (View menu). And if it's not locked I can move it. Seems right to me.

What's Lock menu bar?
 
I normally position my toolbar at the bottom of the TCMD window and wondered if maybe the problem arose only in that case. So I moved it back to the top (default) position.

Then I open the options for TCMD and change the setting for "Lock tabbed toolbar". After I click OK to return to TCMD, the toolbar has vanished completely. As I wrote earlier, it is as if I issued the tctoolbar /c command to clear it.

The command tctoolbar /i restores it, so the data does not get removed from the INI file.

Oh, one additional clue. My TCSTART script loads the toolbar from a file when TCMD starts. If I comment out the commands that do that, TCMD comes up with no toolbar. It does not load it from the INI file.

Now I was looking again to see if there was an option for loading or not loading the toolbar defined in the INI file. I noticed the margins settings on the "Windows" tab and made a change. When I clicked OK, the toolbar disappeared. Now it seems that any saved change causes the toolbar to be cleared.

The toolbar was not cleared in previous versions of TCMD. I can live with the current behavior, but it is peculiar (especially if no one else is seeing it). I'm away on a trip at the moment, so all of this is being done on my laptop. If I were at home, I would have other computers on which to try it.

I tried some experiments with TCMD35. I could not test whether the toolbar would be loaded from the INI file because the data is not stored in the INI file for version 35. I figured out that the "Tabbed Toolbar" options screen would let me save the toolbar, so I did that. Then I closed Take Command and looked at the INI file. The toolbar data is now stored there. However, the tctoolbar /i command does not load it the next time I launch TCMD35 (nor does the toolbar automatically load from the INI file).
 
Thanks for the details. I cannot make the tabbed toolbar disappear. The only thing I didn't try was loading it from a file.
 
When I loaded a tllobar from a file and then toggled LockTabbedToolbar, the loaded toolbar disappeared.
 
How do you normally load a toolbar? Or do you not use one regularly?

I could not figure out how to use TCTOOLBAR to create a new tab, but I added one using the option menu. When I did, the original toolbar reappeared (!!!) with the addition of the new tab (but not the button). Selecting the new tab and using the OPTION again, the button appeared. The new button also got saved to the INI file (is that automatic when adding tabs and buttons?).
 
I don't normally use the tabbed toolbar. I had one left over from some past tests which was in my hand-me-down INI file. I began showing it and messing around because of this thread. I'm not going to investigate other aspects of the tabbed toolbar. The good news (or bad) is that I could reproduce the file-loaded toolbar disappearing when I toggled the LockTabbedToolbar option.

My question relates to the secondary issue of whether the toolbar should be loaded automatically when it is stored in the INI file. That's why I was asking how you loaded it. I gather that you launched TCMD with a specified INI file. Was that enough to load the toolbar stored in it, or did you have to use either tctoolbar /i or the toolbar tab of the OPTIONS menu tab?
 
New TCMDs get a lightly edited copy of an old INI file. So the toolbar was just there. I didn't use /i but I did read from a file as mentioned above.
 
I think you've answered my question, though a bit obliquely. When you start TCMD using an INI file that contains data for a tabbed toolbar, that toolbar does not automatically get loaded. You had to do something to get a toolbar to appear (namely, read it in from a file).

I would have thought that when one stores the data in the INI file it would be loaded at initialization.
 
If it's in the INI file, it is automatically loaded. If View\TabbedToolbar is checked I see it right away. If that's not checked I don't see it and toggling that setting toggles its visibility.
 
That's not what I was seeing. However, I just experimented with clicking the item in the view menu. It was on, and I saw my toolbar. I turned it off, and the toolbar went away. I turned it back on, and the toolbar reappeared. All as expected. Then I removed the code for loading the toolbar from my TCSTART, closed TCMD, and then restarted it. There was the toolbar! And now it does not vanish when I change the TCMD option settings!!

I'm not sure what I just did, but a bunch of odd behaviors seem to have vanished. But my joy was premature. A new malfunction has appeared. I just tried using a toolbar button, and nothing happens. The tabs and buttons are there, but their command lines are all empty.

I just went through another cycle. When I start TCMD, the toolbar is now there without my loading it from a file, but the button contents are mostly missing. I reloaded from my file and re-saved to the INI file. The problem persists: visible toolbar but non-functional buttons.

I went back to TCMD35. I discovered that the "Tabbed Toolbar" button under the View menu was not checked. I checked it, and now version 35 starts up with the toolbar present... and working.
