DOSBox 0.73

Hi,
I'm using
TCC 11.00.34 Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
TCC Build 34 Windows XP Build 2600 Service Pack 3

I've recently started using DOSBox, available from http://www.dosbox.com/

I'm using it to run dBase IV, to make modifications to an old program that is still being used from the 1980's.

Previously, I was using dBase IV in Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, running MS-DOS 6.22, but I wanted the low resource usage of DOSBox.

For the most part, DOSBox is working quite well, except for a minor problem with TCC 11.00.34

My first tab is the TCC Prompt, and my second tab is DOSBox. Note that I did not start DOSBox from TCC or TCMD, but from the Windows XP Start Menu. TCC automatically made it a Tab of TCC.

When I switch to the DOSBox tab, it overlays the TCC Window, but that's a DOSBox thing. I can live with it.

The problem is, when I switch from TCC, with the active Tab being DOSBox, to another Windows App, do whatever, and then switch back to TCC, the top part of TCC, down to and including the Tabs, is displayed, but the image of the Windows App that I was using is still on the screen.

To get everything back to normal, I click on the TCC Prompt tab, which puts the screen back the way it should be. I can then click the DOSBox tab to return to DOSBox.

Note that I cannot switch from the TCC Window, with the DOSBox tab active, to another Window App, and then back to the TCC Window, with the DOSBox tab active. To get everything back to normal, I click on the TCC Prompt tab, which puts the screen back the way it should be. I can then click the DOSBox tab to return to DOSBox.

This is my workaround, but just wondering if there is someway for TCC and DOSBox to get along better, in regards to screen redraws.

When I run DOSBox without TC 11, I have no problems at all with the screen, switching from app to DOSBox and back, etc.

Thanks from Joe

That's not the default TCMD behavior -- it only does that if you've told
TCMD to automatically attach to every console.

There are several problems with the DOSBox implementation (and, at best,
some alarmingly non-standard responses to normal Windows messages). It also
refuses to be hidden or to change the window or screen buffer size -- all of
which pretty much makes it impossible to use with TCMD.

I'm afraid there's nothing that TCMD can do -- this is going to require
fixing DOSBox code.
