One can drag a tab out of Take Command, after which, although it looks almost the same as a detached tab, it is still running in Take Command (e.g., the STATUSBAR command works). Two questions:
Where is this documented in the help?
Is there a way to put the tab back into Take Command?
This is undocking a tab (not detaching), and it's been there for many years. It is documented in the help in "Take Command / Take Command Interface / Take Command Window / Tab Windows".
You can put the tab back by docking it to the tab bar.
You can "tear off" tab windows by clicking on the tab and dragging the window. The window can be reattached by dragging it back to the Take Command window.
I had tried many times to reattach a TCC tab, but I never moved its title bar below the tab bar, so the docking target never appeared.
The rest of the information about rearranging parts of Take Command is in a tutorial called "Rearranging the Take Command Windows". It would probably be helpful if that were also under the "Take Command Window" tab in the help.
When the File Explorer is detached (that's the language there), there is a red 'x' at the upper right that does nothing. The dropdown at the right of the folder line also seems to do nothing (whether the File Explorer is detached or docked).
One other thing. For the TCMD options under the "Advanced" tab, checking or uncheckiing the "Lock menu bar" doesn't seem to do anything. The menu bar cannot be moved.
The File Explorer window is 100% drawn by Windows, so that's 100% Microsoft's code. If you want to file a bug report with them I'm sure they'll hasten to fix it ...
The red X (close) button is disabled (but not hidden) in the File Explorer window.
The "Lock menu bar" option was removed several years ago (because users were misusing it and breaking TCMD. generating spurious bug reports). The INI option wasn't removed because it would have generated more spurious bug reports by having TCMD report TCMD.INI errors at startup.
