Escape key no longer closes Help

For years it has been possible to close TCC Help by pressing the escape key. This feature stopped working recently - I'm not sure exactly when - but it definitely does not work in 12.10.66. Can this feature be reinstated? I find it very convenient.

The html help program is Microsoft's (hh.exe). I don't have control over its internal workings.

None of the .chm files (from any vendor) on my system exit on an escape.

Nor on mine except for tcmd.chm up until a few weeks ago. I don't know how it was accomplished but I swear I'm not making this up.
