Hello JP: TC Support,

I've been trying to sent a mail to Tips & Tricks but keep on
getting failure messages in return. Yes, I'm subscribed.

Failure Message:

Each of the following recipients was rejected by a remote mail server.
The reasons given by the server are included to help you determine why
each recipient was rejected.

Recipient: <[email protected]>
Reason: 5.1.1 <[email protected]>... User unknown

This brings up a closely related question in my mind: How does one
initiate a new thread in one of the forums via email?

I receive all the posts (such as this one) via email and can easily
reply to a thread via email by just doing a "reply" as I am doing
here.

However how would I initiate a new thread in a forum? Is there a list
of the forum address anywhere? I just got finished looking around at
http://www.jpsoft.com/forums/index.php
and didn't see anything about initiating a thread via email.

I found this email from rconn

== quote =The JP Software forums support both web access and email access.

If you want to receive emails of the forum messages:

Click on "User CP" in the navigation bar.

Click on "Edit forum subscriptions".

Click on the drop-down to the right of each forum you want to
subscribe to, and select the type of email subscription you want
(instant, daily digest, or weekly).

Click the update button at the bottom of the page to save your
settings.

You will now receive all messages posted to the selected forums. You
can reply to those messages or send new messages from your email app
and they will be posted to the forum.
== end quote =
Note in the last paragraph above "..or send new messages from your
email app and they will be posted..."

Send new messages to what address??

A search of the forums for the term "email" found messages that
suggested these addresses:

[email protected]

Does anyone know if they are correct? Are there others? Is there an
official list somewhere?

Thanks and Best Regards

Below is a list of email addresses to send your (new thread) posts to, if
authorized to do so (by signing up via the web interface). For each append
the mail server address AT JPSOFT DOT COM.

cp_announcements
cp_support

tc_announcements
tc_plugins
tc_suggestions
tc_support
tc_tips

tccle_announcements
tccle_support

open_forum

BTW, I have an Outlook Express message rule for each, redirecting incoming
messages to unique folders.

I had the same problem a few days ago. Here's a list (provided by Steve
Fabian, IIRC):

It would be helpful if this information would be somewhere on the forum
pages where it can actually be found.

The message I sent to this forum was an email sent to
(the Reply-To field of the forum
generated emails.

While that appears to work fine, it isn't working for
tc_tips.

BTW, my email program, The Bat!, with the help of my header
stripping macro, changed the subject to:
Re: Forum Problem
It will probably post with a mangled subject of:
RE: [Support-t-252] Forum Problem

Weird and totally unnecessary.

BTW2: I didn't quote the previous message between (1) these
forums totally mess up quoting and (2) since threading
works, quoting isn't strictly needed.

BTW, this seems to be out of date - there's a message from Rex in the
Tips & Tricks forum:

"""
The Tips & Tricks forum has been broken into five subforums; the email
addresses are:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
"""

Steve, thanks for (re-)posting these. But the question has come up now
on a number of occasions. I think it would be useful if this
information were available somewhere on the JPSoft site - ideally in
the forum area itself.

(It's actually available in the Reply-To header of any existing email
to a forum, but that's no help if you're trying to post to a forum you
don't have any saved messages for...)

What is the address where you're sending the mail?

Thanks very much Steve. That's very helpful.

Truly strange. It's in the email I received from the forum.
The problem address was right between the Reason: 5.1.1 and
the ... (it's missing in your quoting of my message).

The address to which I had sent is tc_tips at jpsoft dot com

Oh! I asked (futilely)that there be a delay between announcement on new fora
and their implementation, so that there would be time to 1/ subscribe before
the first item is posted, and 2/ set up redirection locally into individual
folders. Apparently the email-only subscriber cannot get everything, the
groups are created and populated before one can subscribe. This makes them
useless for those not "browsing". I don't browse the 'net. If I need
specific information, I use Google, or - what is more frequently the case -
go directly to a specific website. New JPsoft fora fall by the wayside here,
unless the notice is sent well in advance of allowing anything to be posted.

Threading works when enabled only, and then only if the earlier posts were
received via the email interface (not the case for anything before you have
a chance to subscribe to a new group). I have not yet suffered Alzheimer's,
so I just read messages in the order of arrival, unthreaded. If I respond, I
quote the minimum so a reader without access to the original can understand
what I am about to say. I am hoping others do the same, so I don't have to
search the NG for prior messages.

The notice was sent out a couple of weeks ago, before the forums were
populated.

You are correct, and I have apparently set up "instant email" about June
13th (my last access before today to the forum website). However, I did not
receive any email from any of these groups. In fact, the last posts in these
groups were made 4 days before I signed up, on June 9th, hence HERE they are
empty. Is there ever going to be a method to DOWNLOAD old posts, as can be
done from any server using sparklist?
