I haven't tried FreeDOS.

Be aware that there is a warning that the installation can wipe out (replace) the installed O/S, so the user should install
it on a virtual drive (or a separate drive).

Freecom runs under the NT prompt as well, if you are using a 32-bit vista. This is useful when you have large numbers of command.com floating around the system (all versions and subversions of pc-dos and ms-dos).

There's an option to preserve 4dos descriptions in freecom as well.
