Declined SETLOCAL: don't record directory changes in batch files

I just figured out that directory changes in batch files are "recorded" in the directory history and for use with cd - and cdd -. I've been annoyed by that in the past but hadn't figured out what was doing it. Could SETLOCAL (or some other mechanism) be made to prevent that from happening?

Why don't you use the CD & CDD /X option? That's why it's there.

SETLOCAL can't do that.

Well, yes -- "CD -" and "CDD -" wouldn't work if they didn't save the directory in the history.

But the "cd -" syntax is intended for ease of use at the command line. There's no reason to do that in a batch file.

Yes, if I (1) wanted to introduce a breaking change, and (2) create a duplicate directory history that only worked with -.

I don't know about the breaking change but that new directory history would only need to accommodate one directory name, the previous directory.

Not true, unless you never CD - more than once.

I don't understand what you're getting at and I'd really like to. CD - more than once acts like a toggle ... back and forth between the two most recent CWDs, one of which is the the current one.

In your batch file, would the HISTORYEXCLUDE be of use;

set historyexclude=cd;cdd

I believe that directive affects the command history, not the directory history.
