In what sense is the memory "shared"? I can't get another instance (even a child) to recognize the handle.

The help for @SMOPEN says:

name - The offset (in bytes) from the beginning of the shared memory buffer.

That doesn't make sense.

Assuming you meant to give it a name, where's the name used?
