    Unable to install latest version.

    Fails with long error code:

Tried uninstalling 17, turning off all protection utils, etc. Running 8.1 with latest updates.

    Please advise

This is a long-standing Windows Installer bug. 99% of the time if you run the installer again it will work.

If it consistently fails, let me know because Microsoft has been saying for years that they can't reproduce it.

    Yes, it consistently fails.
Also failed on a laptop also running 8.1.

Have also tried after unloading ALL running programs, protections, etc.

    Very Frustrating.

Oh no, exactly the same for me (win7 x64) - I want to install the new shiny, and don't want to re-install windows or ask ms about some obscure bugs :-o

Try it with the latest build (18.00.18) - this installer bug tends to come & go with new builds.

;-(> Still no go, again that big long error code, and difficulty in closing the
installer down. Does not respond to usual closing methods, have to go into task
    manager and kill the process.

What's the difference ... MSI installer or EXE installer? Are all the options and the end result the same?

The MSI installer is 50% bigger, and is missing many of the command line options.

Does the EXE have command line options that are of interest to us?

    To you? No.

    To system admins? Yes.
