In Windows 7, the functionality of the Quick Launch Toolbar has been merged into the Taskbar.

The installation Configure Shortcuts screen has empty space where the Quick Launch Toolbar option used to be.

Is this just a matter of Microsoft not having released an updated version of the installer which includes a Pin to Taskbar option?

In fact they go out of their way to forbid an installer auto-pinning a program. Same as it was with the pinned to start menu programs, or even the last used programs list. Microsoft got tired of every app developer considering their application the coolest thing since sliced bread, and decided to leave the pinning etc to the user's discretion.

FWIW, I'm very glad Microsoft made it more difficult for applications to
manipulate the taskbar's pinned items.

I don't care for my own needs, as much as making this feature useful for
typical end-users, the type that literally give up trying to keep their
desktop remotely clean.
