The public beta for CascadePoint 2.5 has been released and is available at ftp://jpsoft.com/beta/cascadepoint.exe (32-bit) and ftp://jpsoft.com/beta/cascadepoint64.exe (64-bit).

CP 2.5 includes support for Windows 7 and all x64 versions of Windows, and has a number of performance improvements. The full list of new features is in the "What's New" section of the help.

And CP 2.5 is now free for unlimited personal and business use!
If you have questions or bug reports, please post them in the CascadePoint support forum.

That's certainly unexpected; I was planning on paying for two or three licenses when you were ready to release.

I hope you aren't putting in all this work for nothing.

It's extremely difficult to compete in the backup software market. There
are thousands of apps and online backup services, and just buying a click on
Google costs $2.00. We've decided to go the other way and give CascadePoint
away for free, hopefully building traffic to our site and drawing more
attention to Take Command -- which is always going to be our core product.

In the recovery dialog, clicking Find File and giving a file mask that ends
up matching nothing takes several minutes. Perhaps it will never finish --
over 10 minutes so far.

Version 2.50.46

C:\CPArchive>*dir c:\cparchive /s/u
...
Total for: C:\cparchive\*
2,562,492,500 bytes in 26,060 files and 21,752 dirs 2,628,825,088
bytes allocated

One inconvenience I run into is remembering whether I called e.g. a .pl file
a script, code, or text file. I know the path where it is, but unless I
start in the right file type, I won't find it.

I thought using the Find File dialog would help, but something appears
broken.

According to procmon, CP is doing QueryOpen at about 3kHz.

2010 Sundays: 4/4, 6/6, 8/8, 10/10, 12/12 and 5/9, 9/5, 7/11, 11/7.
Next year they're Monday.

I noticed that while DOCX and XLSX extensions are included, PPTX is not.

Hey Guys,
Please make your comments about CP in cp_support, not here!
Just because Rex announced it here, too, that other group still exists...

TIA, Steve

Sorry for the OT post -- I forgot about the specific CP support group.
