Command Line Editing with Selected Text

The help says the following:

Once you have selected or highlighted text on the command line, any new text you type will replace the highlighted text. If you press Bksp or Del while there is text highlighted on the command line, the highlighted text will be deleted.​

That does not work (in a TCC tab in a ConPTY window in TCMD). I selected some text and pressed the Delete key or the Backspace key. Only one character was deleted.

Even worse, if I type new text, the old text is left (no longer selected), and the new text goes in at the beginning of the next word following the previously selected text.

I also find that sometimes after I position the cursor to some point along the command line and start to type, the new text goes somewhere else. I'm still trying to pin down the exact situation in which that happens.

I do not see these problems when the TCC tab is not ConPTY.

I started to write this while using build 27, but it persists in build 28 (at least the part about selected text).

I can reproduce this with build 28. If I recall a command line and highlight a specific portion with my mouse,

Then start typing the word "Test", I get this

It appears to insert the typed text into the command line wherever the cursor was last positioned.

Case 1: So if I click on the C in DispColors, then start typing I get this (which is what I would expect)

Case 2: But if I instead click on the C in DispColors and then select the entire word DispColors with my mouse and then start typing, I would expect my typing to replace the DispColors I had selected. Instead I get the same result as the image immediately above where I had only positioned the cursor on the "C".

Case 3: If I click on the C in DispColors, and then using the keyboard select the entire word DispColors, and then start typing, the entire selected word is replaced with what I type, as expected.

I was using the mouse to make the selection. As described above, things seem to work when the cursor is used to select the text.

In my case, however, when the text is selected using the cursor controls, the selected text is not highlighted as it is with the mouse, so I don't know what has been selected.

If the text is not being highlighted, you probably have defined the same colors for your normal / input text and the selected text.

If you are using mouse selection in TCMD on a command line, there are a couple of caveats:

1. It will only work with TCC tab windows
2. It will only work with the same version of TCC and TCMD

TCMD has to send messages to TCC (where the command line editing is being done) so they can synchronize the selected text.

Here is what it says in the options:

Shouldn't that produce selected text that is black on a white background? I tried to reproduce what I reported earlier (inverse video appearing many lines above the command line), but it's not happening now, but the appearance of the text does not change.

In a standalone TCC window, it does work, just not in a TCMD tab.

Oh, I was setting the colors in TCC. Now I see that I have to set them in TCMD. They don't show in the options screen, but I choose black for FG Selected (which it was already) and white for the BG Selected.

After closing and restarting Take Command, nothing has changed. When I select text using the cursor keys, nothing changes in appearance.

Is there something that I should be doing differently?
