Since the "Open Forum" NG is NOT monitored by JPsoft, I need to post this in
a JPsoft product NG, though it is off-topic here.

1/ How can I change my user name (NOT my email address or password) - I am
tired of the garbling of my name in emails (Fbin) due to incorrect code
conversion of accented characters between browser-based inputs (the only way
to register, or change one's profile) and email based messages. I don't want
to add a new subscription, I want to change the registered name of the
existing subscription. In fact the subscription (registration) software
allows me to log in either as "Steve Fabian" or with the accented characters
("Steve Fábián" - which may get garbled).

2/ There should be another main category in the Forum, to wit: "Forum", with
two subcategories: suggestions and support. This would allow issues related
only to the Forum to be posted in places monitored by JPsoft, without being
OT in a JPsoft product NG.

3/ In the "Open Forum" NG I received by email a post by BobK, which responds
to a quoted earlier post by jerry.runnels@dzilonestar, but I did not receive
the original one.

Correction - I had received the original more than a year and a half ago...

| There's no way to do that. You have to delete your account and

Never mind, I realized the problem is in how Outlook Express displays the
posts. When I changed view -> encoding from UTF-8 to either Western or
Central European, they showed up correctly.

It's apparently also a bug in the vBulletin software, as your name with
accented characters is NOT encoded properly in the email headers; I even
see my malware scanner complain about this:

X-Amavis-Alert: BAD HEADER SECTION, Non-encoded 8-bit data (char E1 hex):
From: Steve F\341bi\341n <tc_suppor[...]
[...]
Date: Thu, 18 Feb 2010 21:35:15 -0500
From: Steve Fábián <>

As you can see, the "From" header contains direct á characters, which is
not allowed. The header should have been encoded, similar to:

From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Steve_F=E1bi=E1n?= <>
