Forum "Smilies"

Would it be possible to turn off the Smilies in this forum? This really isn't the type of forum where people use smilies a lot and it really screws up sample code and command line examples when it converts text into smilies. Instead of being able to get into the examples and see what it being done, I spend most of my time trying to reverse engineer the smilies in my head. Most recent example is the post by Steve asking about sftp crashing...

The first line of his sample code (for those using email) looks to me like (with text replacing the actual icon) ...

iftp sftp://user(FACE_STICKING_OUT_TONGUE)[email protected]/

Copying the text from that post to here even lost the characters that comprise the face, pasting back as...

iftp sftp://[email protected]/

It's not possible to turn off smilies forum-wide without disabling *all* images.

But you can click on "Disable smilies in text" (under "Additional Options") before you post something with code blocks.

I believe that would affect only how the code is displayed in a browser, not what it looks like in email. Disabling smilies in received email is possible (at least in some mail clients), but that is often combined with disabling all formatting, which makes things more difficult to read...

No, there's no way to do that. (The vBulletin developers have had that on the suggestion list for a while now.)
