1/ How can I access messages in a NG without threading?

2/ How can I download all messages of each NG to my own computer, as I could with the old (sparklist) NGs?

Go to User CP | Set Options and set Thread Display Mode to one of the two
Linear options. You might also want to adjust Number of Posts to Show Per
Page.

| Mail to what ?

That was incredible! I put the standard email address of this group into my
message:

open_forum AT jpsoft DOT com (actually using the @ sign and the period
instead of space-delimited words AT and DOT), and it is exactly that in my
SENT folder. By the time it came back from the NG, the whole thing was
deleted!

This is the list of email addresses to send email to for the various NGs,
all of them require the suffix @jpsoft.com ( AT jpsoft DOT com, in case they
are eaten):

beta_cp beta_tc
cp_announcements cp_support cp_suggestions
le_announcements le_support
tc_announcements tc__plugins tc_support tc_suggestions
tc_tips
tc_tips_aliases tc_tips_functions tc_tips_misc tc_tips_plugins
tc_tips_scripting
open_forum

I hope this will get through unmangled. I'll monitor better.

I tried this, in fact I already had the option "linear - oldest first" set.
However, nothing allows me to read all messages in this NG just in order of
their posting, regardless of which thread they belong to. I have to choose a
thread and scroll through all the old messages in the thread to find the new
ones (if any). In mail readers and news readers I have the choice of viewing
all messages in the folder either grouped by thread or ignoring threads, and
to sort them by author, title, date, etc. This feature is just not available
when I log into the forum via a browser. When using a news/mail client, I
normally just read (or occasionally ignore) messages in the order received,
because by the grace of God I can generally remember earlier messages in
whatever thread they might belong to, at least sufficiently to understand
each, and I do not have to spend hours trying to find all the threads in
which messages were posted since I last browsed.

Thank you Steve !

But where did you find those addresses please ?

They were made available at the time the current set of NGs was created,
though not formally. I may have collected them by getting messages in my
mailbox. I now use Outlook Express' "message rule" feature to direct
messages from each of those addresses to individual folders automatically.

Thank !

Rex,

Could this kind of trick be placed in a FAQs section on the forum or on your site ?

I will try to post later to see how it works ...
