Where would that option be? I didn't find it in my perusing of the
User CP or settings.

I think that is an email setting not a forum setting.

Do you mean this Options setting?

Email Lists - Receive notification for own posts?

The administrator has setup some of the forums to enable you to post and reply directly from email. Do you wish to receive email notification for your own posts for these forums?

No. In both OE and Thunderbird there is an email option for messages you
send out either to request or not to request return receipt and/or read
receipt. Until now my messages did not go out as "mail", so mail settings
had no effect. Now I am trying to determine how to turno off the receipt
request for specified email addresses, without turning them off for others.

Um. Can't the board software simply ignore the return receipt flag on incoming email if it's a problem? Or is the assumption that anyone who is going to post via email will be willing and able to reconfigure for the sake of this board?

It ought to have that ability. Normal mail clients have options to control
when to obey receipt requests for received mail (independtly of the controls
for requesting receipts for mail sent). In fact I suspect that this has been
set by now by Neil or Rex, since neither posts I originated recently, nor
posts I replied to (via OE) resulted in "stuttering".

I am curious to see how long it takes for this reply to come back to me. I
just need to compare the timestamp in the "sent mail" folder and the content
of the folder where it is delivered.

The board software doesn't have anything to do with the incoming email;
it's going to the jpsoft.com email server.

Unless someone knows something I do not, Outlook has one global setting
for return receipts and delivery notices.

While it is true you can manually go into the options for a particular
email and change the state of them, it sure is a pain in the back-side
to do it manually for list-servers that do not automatically ignore
them.

Is there any way to get the JPSoft mail forwarder to just silently drop
return receipts?

Am I correct that you had been able to make server changes such that
requesting return receipt / read receipt is no longer harmful?

I don't know yet. The messages requesting return receipt are being held
up in the spam filter but most of them eventually are delivered a few
hours later. But a few aren't and I don't know why.
