SELECT highlight color white on white

I just upgraded from 36.52.81 to

TCC 36.52.87 x64 Windows 11 [Version 10.0.26200.9168]

In the old version. the highlight color for SELECT was white on black in a ConPTY tab in Take Command. Now it is white on white. I tried changing the ConPTY Tabs BG Selected color, but no effect. In TCC Options, I have ANSI colors checked and Selected set to Default; I tried changing the Selected colors, but this had no effect.

Do you have "SelectColors" and/or "SelectStatBarColors" set in your TCMD.INI?

Try temporarily renaming your TCMD.INI and starting TCMD & TCC and see if the problem persists.

Neither SelectColors" nor "SelectStatBarColors" is set in TCMD.INI. If I rename TCMD.INI, the text in the Take Command tab is gray on black and the SELECT highlight is black on gray.

FWIW, I have these, all zeroes because I specified "Default" in the OPTION dialog. I don't know how they work otherwise.

Text is black on white. If I select text with the mouse, the text is white on black. The SELECT highlight is still white on white. I just changed it to

TabPtySelectedFGColor=ffffff
TabPtySelectedBGColor=000000

This didn't change anything that I can see.

TabPtySelectedxxxColor doesn't have anything to do with the SELECT command. It specifies the color to use when you select text (i.e., for copying to the clipboard).

OK. So, what does control the colors SELECT uses? Do I need to change something?

The selection highlight in SELECT is the same as the status bar color:

That works for blue, but

gives white on white. I could live with blue. How do you set it in the ini file?

The (obsolete and deprecated, but it still works) INI directive to set the SELECT colors is "SelectColors". It is the foreground color; the highlight is the inverse of the color you specify.

Rex: I'm not sure what you are suggesting I do. Charles's suggestion works. "SelectStatBarColors=Bright White on Green" works and is a nice color combo.

I'm not clear on how these newfangled "default" foreground and background colors appear to the old-style, 16-color EGA-type calls. As duplicated nybbles, like 0x00 or 0x11? I can see how that would lead to problems in older, non-ConPTY-aware commands like SELECT.

SelectColors expects something like "white on black" for the text color, which would result in the highlight being inversed to black on white.

I put "SelectColors=black on bright white" in my tcmd.ini and removed SelectStatBarColors. Attached are what dir and select look like. For the latter, the highlight is on the line under Foo and above epsilon.ses.

I don't know what the default console palette is.

I did change the colors in Windows Terminal to try to make TCC have a sensible color scheme (something like black on white). The color scheme is set to One Half Light (at least that one says "default") and the application scheme to Light. I don't see a Profile for TCC, so presume it is using the "Defaults" one (which says One Half Light). I only fiddled with it for a short while since I usually use Take Command, but did want TCC to have something similar to black on white. The Windows Terminal color settings seem too complicated.

I'm happy with the SelectStatBarColors setting.

Note that in the screenshot above, both the selection highlight and the status bar are invisible.

I'm pretty sure that SELECT uses SelectStatBarColors for the selection highlight if it's defined, and falls back on reversing the default colors when SelectStatBarColors is not defined.

Setting SelectStatBarColors does set both the selection highlight and the status bar at the top. It seems to do exactly what I want.

Same problem with the LIST status bar at the top. I guessed that there is a ListStatBarColors setting that fixes this.
