Take Command LE (32 bit) locking up several times a day

I'm not sure what the issue is - when I go away for a while and come back, it's locked up (completely unresponsive and I have to kill it typically leaving a vew orphaned TCC.exes).

I've gone back to V10 (which luckily stayed installed even though I told it to uninstall).

What version and build of TCMD/LE, and what version of Windows?

Build 25 is a (now expired) beta build; you should update that immediately.

I installed .35, uninstalling .25 first. It's now locked up again. I wasn't actually doing anything, I just set a few environment variables and went to lunch.

Process Explorer says: State: Wait:UserRequest (don't know if that's at all helpful).

Afaik the le version is free and unsupported

The free version is TCC/LE, as far as I know.

The version I'm using, Take Command LE, cost me around $40 to register (for V10) and shows my registration information via Help/About.

Not particularly, except that it's hanging inside Windows, not TCMD/LE.

Can you send me your TCMD.INI?

Interesting - I had saved that off a few days ago when the problem started, and hoped TCMD would re-create it with valid values. When I checked, it was present but empty (but the size was listed as 3K); I replaced the old file and it hasn't locked up in over 12 hours... So possibly the problem is solved. Here's the information if it's useful.

I was *JUST* about to post a similar report!

I am running TCMD 12 64-bit edition (latest build) on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I had the TCMD window open, went out to get lunch, came back about 20 minutes later and the program had locked up (empty WINDOW, non-responsive). I have seen this same problem several times, only when TCMD is left open. My screen blanker (built into Windows) had kicked in, but I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the problem.

I never saw anything like this with TCMD11.

Try deleting & recreating your TCMD.INI -- the people who've reported this previously say the problem (apparently) went away with a fresh TCMD.INI.

Tried that, didn't work. I deleted the file, let TCMD recreate it, then added only this stuff back in:

I removed my TCMD.INI and TCSTART.BTM files and restarted TCMD. It didn't hang up this time. Hmmmm....

This is what was in TCSTART.BTM:

@echo off
if %_pipe != 0 .or. %_transient != 0 quit
cls /c
ver /r
echo.
if %_shralias NE 1 shralias
alias /r D:\tcmd12x64\TCalias

Hi Rex,

I think I may know what the problem is. I restored my TCSTART.BTM file and commented out the ONE command that went outside the TCMD environment, and the window stayed active all night, no freezes.

It was the 'uname' command, which is part of the Cygwin (Unix emulation) package.

Please try this:

Download and run "setup.exe" from www.cygwin.com. When you get to "select packages", expand "Base" and select only "cygwin", then Next.

After it's done installing, run this program within TCMD:

C:\cygwin\bin\uname -a

This should display a message like:

CYGWIN_NT-6.1-WOW64 JJR 1.7.7(0.230/5/3) 2010-08-31 09:58 i686 Cygwin

Now just leave the window alone. In about 10-20 minutes, I expect it will become unresponsive.

I couldn't reproduce the problem that simply. I've attached my files, maybe you can if you install Cygwin.

rename tcmd.ini.txt to tcmd.ini
rename tcalias.txt to tcalias
