Relationship to 4DOS

I have been using 4DOS 5.5 at home since it came out (over 10 years?). I would be lost without it. I am more and more in need of a new system, but one reason for hesitation is losing 4DOS capibilities.

Question: Will the free TCC/LE, will all newer Windows versions, give me all the capabilities of 4DOS? Or, will I lose important features?

Question: Can old DOS programs run in the free TCC/LE program?

If the answer to either is "no," how about LE v.11? Thanks much.

TCC/LE is intended as a free replacement for CMD.EXE, not a free replacement for the full (paid) version. It does not do everything 4DOS did -- I don't have a complete list handy, but off the top of my head I know it doesn't do user-defined functions. To use with current versions of Windows, I would suggest purchasing a copy of the current Take Command. (And no, I don't work for JP Software.)

TCC/LE is mostly compatible with 4DOS. Problems arise because the
underlying operating systems are different. So will the use of pipes
under 4DOS not work as expected under TCC/LE.

Yes, in general, but small rewrites will probably be necessary, e.g. for
pipes.

There's a feature comparison in the help file for TCC/LE; see "Comparing TCC
and TCC/LE".

That's a function of the operating system, not the command processor.
