Declined User-defined XDIR actions

... possibly defined in TCMD.INI (XdirUserAction1=..., et c.) or by special aliases. Let the user assign keys. The current file/directory could be appended as a parameter.

What does it have to do with plugins? I was suggesting the feature be built-in.

Some additional Xdir action names (XdirUserAction1 ... XdirUserActionN). The user could specify what they do with INI directives or a special aliases and assign keys in the OPTION\Keyboard dialog. TCC would append the fully-qualified file/dir name to the user-defined action and execute it.

For example, in [Keys] XdirUserAction1=Ctrl-H

along with

alias XdirUserAction1=path_to_hex_editor.exe

I still don't see how that could be done without hooking the XDIR code & requiring the user to program to it.

Almost anything you would want to do (change dir / drive, rename file, move file, copy file, delete file, etc.) would require XDIR to restart itself, reread the directory and redraw everything. Even just specifying a different editor would require a subsequent directory read. Not sure how XDIR is supposed to automagically know what you did and what you expect XDIR to do afterwards.

Xdir doesn't reload when you use Ctrl-E (edit with TCEdit) and change the edited file. Is it supposed to? If it doesn't reload after an edit, it's likely to be showing inaccurate information.

It does not reload after an edit, and Rex explains why in this thread.
