The XDIR command in Take Command / TCC v35
Take Command / TCC Version 35 includes a new internal command XDIR. XDIR is a fast minimalist file manager that combines features of DIR, CDD, MKDIR, REN, and DEL.

Why add another file manager when you can already use Explorer or a third-party file manager?
· XDIR is fast and doesn't require moving your hand off the keyboard to use a mouse (though it does support the mouse).
· XDIR will (optionally) change the TCC directory to the selected XDIR directory.
· You can choose the directory formatting with your desired fields. XDIR supports most of the DIR options (except for those for multiple columns or rows).
· XDIR supports DIR directory colorization.
· You can search for directories or files using extended TCC wildcards or regular expressions.
· The XDIR keys can be changed or added with the OPTION command (OPTION / Keyboard / Category / XDIR).
Although we call XDIR a "minimalist file manager", it can do the things you commonly need:
· Go to the selected subdirectory and display its contents.
· Go to the parent directory.
· Run an executable file or execute the default Windows "Open" action for that file type.
· Search for files / directories.
· Create a new directory.
· Create a new file.
· Display information about the selected directory or file (pathname, description, size, create / access / last write date & time).
· Rename the selected directory or file.
· Delete the selected directory or file.
· Display the selected file using the VIEW command.
· Edit the selected file using TCEdit.
· Copy or append the selected directory or file name (fully expanded) to the clipboard.
We have some enhancements in mind for future versions of XDIR (such as multiple column support and some of the PDIR options), but we plan to keep it lean and not turn it into a full-blown file manager. If you have ideas, please post them in the JP Software Suggestions Forum.
XDIR is not supported in TCC-RT.
