Can these email "Subject" headers be avoided?

Can email subject headers like this one (below) be avoided? They screw up threading.

That's what one gets for adding those ridiculous [FOO] prefixes. :)

Anyway, non-broken email clients should thread on the References:
header, NOT on the Subject field, unless there's no other information
available.

It'd be nice if the "to" header was the list rather than me, as well.
It's a cosmetic thing, as I'm filtering on the from field, but it's
odd not seeing "To: list_name" in my client. After all, it's a list
message, not a personal one.

That cannot be changed either.

The only thing I can change is the "from" address (to make everything
come from the same address) -- but that would make it hard to determine
from which forum the message had been sent.

gmail threads these just fine; perhaps you could set up an address for
these messages. At work I am now using Outlook but am very happy to
get jp email through gmail, especially now that nntp is gone
