Take Command 25.00.17 crashing

I have a strange problem. I recently upgraded from TC21 to TC25. I'll open Take Command and do stuff, and all is fine, then randomly some time later (10-30 minutes), while I'm doing something else, Take Command will just disappear and a new TCC Prompt window will open.

It happens pretty much every time.

All I can see is a couple of events in the Windows Application Event Log as below. I can send the relevant files to someone if they'll be useful. Otherwise is there anything else I can do to try to track this down (I'm a software engineer, so you can tell me to do technical stuff ;-) )?

If TCMD disappears and a "new" TCC prompt appears, what is more likely happening is that something is breaking the TCMD <-> TCC IPC communication. In that case, in v25 TCC thinks that TCMD has either crashed or been killed by another process, and it will unhide the console window so you can save your work.

Try going to the TCMD configuration dialog, select the "Advanced" tab, and unclick "Close if no tabs exist". Then run TCMD again and see if the TCC tab window disappears (and reappears in a separate console window), and the TCMD window stays alive.

Yep, done that, and now I have a TCMD window with no tabs and a new TCC window

Also, I've noticed that TCC inside TCMD seems very 'laggy' (but it's OK in all the detached TCC windows, so that also could be because of a problem with the communication.

What next?

I've created a test build of TCMD that doesn't have the communication heartbeat between TCMD and TCC. Download it from:

and let me know if it solves (1) the TCC unhiding itself because it thinks TCMD is gone, and (2) the delays in TCC.

I've tried this build, and the lagginess has gone.

The TCC instance is still inside TCMD an hour later - normally it would have dropped out before now.

So, it looks promising :-)

That's not *exactly* good news, as it means that your system (and one other that I know of) has some serious problems with named pipes. (Not new with v25; it was just exposed with v25.)

Now I have to figure out *why* named pipes are so slow on your system.

Nothing else seems particularly slow or laggy. My PC is a i7-6800k @3.40GHz with 32GB RAM. There are a few hundred processes running (including >100 instances of chrome.exe), and using about 18GB at the moment.

If you can think of anything you want me to try, I can give it a go.

If you want, I can put back the original TCMD 25 to make the problem more visible.

Any particularly zealous "antivirus" you are using?
Just a wild guess.

I'm using BitDefender. I'll try putting back the original TCMD 25 and see if disabling the AV makes any difference.
