SENDMAIL via smtp.gmail.com?

Has anyone successfully sent email via smtp.gmail.com?

I set it up for port 465 and Auto SSL and gave it a try. I got

TCC: SMTP protocol error. 534 5.7.14  https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754 l195-v6sm3249035qke.33 - gsmtp.

Moments later, I got an email from gmail:

Someone just used your password to try to sign in to your account from a non-Google app. Google blocked them, but you should check what happened.

Can it be made to work?

Never mind. I got it working. I had to go here and allow less secure apps.

@vefatica, you don't have to allow less secure apps. Review this thread.

I like how Google brand everything "insecure" if it does not jump when it says so.
