You should use an 'app password' to bypass 2-step authentication. The procedure is described at https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833

I believe Google requires TLS, not SSL. And in our applications we had to use a special modified certificate handler because the Google certificates are 'different'. However this may already be covered by whatever SMTP component is in use by TC.

Follow the directions, login via the web interface, you'll have a message waiting that will address the issue.

I don[t have the setting necessary - I don't use a cell phone....

A cell phone is totally unrelated. When Google notices you login via an unusual interface, they block and it and prompt you on the web server.
